Department of Solid Waste Management Hurricane Irma Preparation 9-7-17

Department of Solid Waste Management Hurricane Irma Preparation 9-7-17

  • All garbage and recycling services will continue to be provided as usual on Thursday, September 7 and Friday, September 8. Customers should place their carts at the curb by 7 a.m. on their normal collection day.
  • Bulky waste scheduling was suspended as of 8 a.m., Wednesday September 6, 2017. Residents can no longer call 311 to schedule pickups or schedule a pickup online (311 Direct) or by using the telephone app. Again, we advise that trees NOT be trimmed and no new trash piles be placed at the curb in advance of the storm.
  • Our crews continue to work diligently collecting previously scheduled piles. They will continue to collect previously scheduled piles the remainder of this week and into the weekend until weather conditions no longer permit safe operation of our equipment and vehicles.
  • If residents need to immediately dispose of household trash, yard trash and bulky items, we recommend that they take trash items to one of the 13 Neighborhood Trash and Recycling Centers (TRCs). The TRCs are open only to Miami-Dade County Solid Waste Management service area customers.
  • Until further notice, Trash and Recycling Centers will have extended operating hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The TRCs will continue to operate on this extended schedule until the weather conditions no longer permit.
  • County residents who need to safely dispose of pool chemicals, pesticides, paints and other home chemicals can do so at the Department’s two Home Chemical Collection Centers in South Dade and Doral. The sites are open from 9 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and will continue to operate during their normal business hours until weather conditions no longer permit.
  • These Home Chemical Collection Centers are open to ALL County residents. No commercial waste is accepted.
