Each year, the City of Doral’s leadership recognizes the importance of trees in our community, commemorating it in accordance with the State’s Arbor Day, which falls on the third Friday in January.
Doral, FL – Each year, the City of Doral’s leadership recognizes the importance of trees in our community, commemorating it in accordance with the State’s Arbor Day, which falls on the third Friday in January. It has become a tradition for the City to donate a Florida Native tree to each Doral elementary school. Our Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez and Vice-Mayor Claudia Mariaca visited Shelton Academy, John I Smith Elementary, Dr. Rolando Espinosa K-8 Center, Eugenia B. Thomas K-8 Center, Downtown Doral Charter School, Divine Savior Academy, Renaissance Elementary Charter, and Doral Academy.
Fourth grade students prepared and presented poems and art work to commemorate Arbor Day and the many benefits that we get from trees. A proclamation was presented to each school representative along with a brief history of Arbor Day. The Orange Geiger trees were deliver and planted at their respective schools, and the students made a pledge to care for them in support of the environment and acknowledgment of the endless benefits of trees.
The City continues spreading awareness about the importance of trees to its citizens with events like this, and through other initiatives that align with the Tree City USA program. These programs help establish a frame work enhancing the management of planting and tree care; educating about the importance of sustainable tree management and engaging organizations in advancing urban forestry. It also showcases the pride residents feel about where they live, work, learn and play.
