Doral, FL- Each year, the City of Doral’s leadership recognizes the importance of trees in our community, commemorating it in accordance with the State’s Arbor Day, which falls on the third Friday in January. It has become a tradition for the City to donate a Florida Native tree to each Doral elementary school. Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez and City Council visits each school to issue a Proclamation to students. Due to CDC Regulations, two students from each school are chosen to represent the school and receive the Proclamation from the Mayor to commemorate Arbor Day and emphasize the many benefits that we get from trees. On Arbor Day, Downtown Doral Charter School and Renaissance Elementary Charter were visited, with the rest of the school visits taking place throughout the months of January and February. The students were able to learn a brief history of Arbor Day and take photos with the 25-gallon Green Buttonwood tree delivered and planted at their respective schools. The City continues spreading awareness about the importance of trees to its citizens with events like this, and through other initiatives that align with the Tree City USA program. This year the City once again was recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation as a “Tree City USA” for the 13th consecutive year. These programs help establish a framework enhancing the management of planting and tree care; educating about the importance of sustainable tree management and engaging organizations in advancing urban forestry. It also showcases the pride residents feel about where they live, work, learn and play.
