Doral Chief of Police Receives
Distinguished Alumni Award from Barry University
Doral, FL – The City of Doral is proud to announce that Chief of Police, Donald W. De Lucca, has been recognized by Barry University with the Distinguished Alumni Award. Chief De Lucca attended Barry University where he graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in 1996. Chief De Lucca is a thirty year law enforcement professional and has been serving the City of Doral since 2014 as Chief of Police and most recently served as President of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), a professional association for law enforcement worldwide.
“I take great pride in the work that I do as a law enforcement officer to secure the safety of the residents in Doral and the other cities in which I have served,” said Chief De Lucca. “I am humbled to receive this recognition from my alma mater.”
Under his leadership, the Doral Police Department has increased personnel, enhanced traffic safety and community policing initiatives. Prestigious accomplishments also include the accreditation of the Police Department by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation and several department units being honored at the Law Enforcement Officer Awards, better known as the LEO Awards, for its exceptional community policing efforts.
Along with Chief De Lucca, seven other leaders in the community were recognized for their achievements since leaving Barry University. Founded in 1940 by the Adrian Dominican Sisters, Barry University offers more than 100 bachelors, masters and doctoral degree programs. Based in Miami, Fla., the University is composed of two colleges and six schools in the areas of Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Law, Nursing and Health Sciences, Podiatric Medicine, Professional and Career Education, and Social Work. The university enrolls approximately 8,000 students from nearly all 50 states and 80 countries, and has more than 60,000 alumni worldwide.
