Special speakers included: Doral Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez, U.S. Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart, Miami-Dade Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz, Miami-Dade Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz, Mr. Michael Shepherd and Mr. Ralph West.
Mr. Shepherd was a special guest that spoke touching words about his experience of patriotism, sacrifice, and loss as a veteran. He is an Eagle Scout, West Point graduate and U.S. Army veteran who served in Afghanistan as a scout platoon leader, earning the Bronze Star Medal and Combat Action Badge. Subsequently, he was an executive officer who led a 92-soldier reconnaissance unit.
Mr. Michael Shepherd’s Speech
Mr. West is a Vietnam veteran, supporter of all veterans and great friend to the City of Doral. Thanks to a donation from him and his wife, Veterans Park has a Vietnam commemorative monument with plaque that names fallen heroes during the Vietnam War that were from Miami-Dade County. It was always his goal to have a place in the Miami area that would honor Vietnam veterans.
This event would not be possible without the participation from community groups like Boy & Girl Scouts Troop 552, Loyola Elementary School, Miami Music Project and more. We thank them for their support.
