Officers from the Doral Police Department were participating in a training exercise at the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Training Bureau when at approximately 11:40 am, one of the officers was accidentally shot in the upper chest.
Doral, FL – Officers from the Doral Police Department were participating in a training exercise at the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Training Bureau when at approximately 11:40 am, one of the officers was accidentally shot in the upper chest. This training exercise was being conducted by Doral Police and the only participants were Doral Police officers. The injured officer was airlifted by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to the Jackson Memorial Hospital / Ryder Trauma Center. He is listed in serious / stable condition and is recovering.
The injured officer is Eric Fernandez, an 11-year veteran of the Doral Police Department, who has held the rank of sergeant for the past three years. Sergeant Fernandez is assigned to Uniform Patrol and is also a Field Training Sergeant.
The investigation into this unfortunate incident is being conducted by the Miami-Dade Police Department. Any questions regarding the incident and the ongoing investigation should be directed to Miami-Dade Police Department’s Public Information Office.
