Doral, FL – Councilwoman Sandra Ruiz remains committed to clean energy and home strengthening initiatives, recently introducing to the City Council innovative legislation for Doral property owners, Property Assessed Clean Energy (“PACE”) programs. The PACE program was preliminarily approved with a 4-1 vote and later unanimously approved by the City Council. The program is a federally-inspired and state-approved endeavor to incentivize homeowners to gain access to available funding for home energy-saving upgrades. It provides homeowners an additional voluntary option when considering how to finance improvements to their home that will make their homes energy efficient, as well as safeguard their homes from hurricanes. A wide range of improvements are included in the program from impact windows and doors to solar panels and efficient air conditioners. “By implementing the PACE programs, homeowners would benefit from greatly reduced energy bills, resilient homes, and increased property values, all while increasing Doral’s green footprint and aiding in achieving our clean energy goals. PACE will create local, well-paying and long-term jobs in a variety of industries and place our community in the clean energy space”, said Councilwoman Ruiz. PACE allows property owners to pay for energy-efficient upgrades by accessing the equity in their homes, without credit checks and without compromising their income/debt ratio. Property owners can choose terms between 15-25 years and pay off their investment through an add-on to their yearly tax bill. Doral becomes the 20th municipality in Miami-Dade County to start the program, which includes Miami-Dade County itself, but it is only one of a handful of jurisdictions in the County participating in more than one program. Allowing more than one PACE program fosters competitive work and finance prices for the community.
