MPO Appoints Boria to Transportation Advisory Committee
Doral, FL – The Miami-Dade Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) named Mayor Luigi Boria as the newest member of the Citizen’s Transportation Advisory Committee (CTAC). The responsibilities of the CTAC include participating in the development of a long range transportation plan, assisting in the review and development of transportation planning studies as well as serving as a forum for citizens to raise transportation planning issues.
“This is not just an honor, it is a great responsibility,” observed Mayor Boria; “Traffic is a regional problem and it cannot get better in Doral if we do not find solutions for all of Miami-Dade County.” The Metropolitan Planning Organization’s 23-member board is charged with prioritizing federal dollars available for county transportation; all 13 County Commissioners get seats on the MPO, which is also made up of representatives from large cities, the school board and other entities.
In addition to the reversible lanes feasibility study approved by the Miami-Dade County Commissioners in March of this year, the City has also submitted for two MPO municipal grants to perform transportation planning studies on the feasibility of converting two roadways to one-way paired streets to improve capacity and another study on the feasibility of an FIU Trolley Route along NW 107 Avenue to improve transit connections between the City and the university campus.
“The MPO is a good partner to Doral,” declared Dr. Joan Shen, the City’s Public Works Director. “They understand that Doral is serious about improving traffic flow, and that we are willing to innovate,” she added.
