Our City of Doral supports National Public Works Week

Doral, FL – In accordance with the tradition, the City of Doral is joining the American Public Works Association (APWA) to honor the 2022 National Public Works Week (NPWW). This year the National Public Works Week is celebrated from May 15 to 21, 2022, and it commemorates the contributions of Public Works professionals to the communities they serve.

“We value our communities and the role that public works professionals play in keeping them safe and functional” reports the America Public Works Association (APWA), the official sponsor of the National Public Works Week (NPWW). Our objective is to increase public awareness of their contributions, as well as to enlighten the public about the duties, practices, and goals of public works professionals.

Public Works professionals include those who manage water, sewer, public transportation, and waste removal systems, as well as those responsible for maintaining public buildings and grounds. They are, in short, the people who maintain and improve the systems and services vital to a community’s health, safety and comfort. Besides maintaining and improving the right-of-way, the Public Works Department strives to protect and educate the individuals that are using these roads. Recognizing the benefits of bicycling, Public Works has worked to implement a plan to develop a network of proposed multi-use facilities for a variety user; and at the same time carried out educational programs to ensure safety. Public Works recognizes that by providing safe and properly maintained roads, we are sustaining a symbiotic relationship between the City and its bicyclist, by positively impacting the community.

To commemorate National Public Works Week, the Honorable Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez has issued certificates of appreciation to each Public Works Department employee and will hold a luncheon in appreciation to their hard work and contribution to the “Keep Doral Beautiful” effort.

Throughout the entire week, the City’s Public Affairs Department will be showcasing the different functions performed by Public Works Department to bring awareness to the community’s residents and visitors and to recognize the importance and the admirable work that the Public Works Department does for the community.
