Southern Command Honors Councilwoman Rodriguez
Doral, FL – U. S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) recognized two term Doral councilmember Ana Maria Rodriguez with the Good Neighbor Award for her efforts supporting Florida House Bill 1073 and Senate Bill 1656. The new law, passed under Senate Bill 184, requires landlords, condominium associations, cooperative associations, or homeowners' associations to complete processing of rental applications submitted by service members within specified timeframe.
“This makes a big difference to service personnel transferring to Miami-Dade,” remarked Army Garrison Public Affairs Officer Arthur McQueen. “They only receive ten days of temporary lodging, so expediting the process reduces the financial burden on the service member,” he added.
“My job as Vice President of Governmental Affairs for the Miami Association of Realtors and my elected position brings me in regular contact with SOUTHCOM, but they are also my neighbors,” explained the Councilwoman. “While it is nice to be recognized, this was really a team effort led by Bob Levy and his associates, Jose Diaz and Speaker Pro-Tempore Marty Bowen; Bob was a decorated combat veteran in Vietnam and I know he felt a sense of duty to the next generation serving our country,” she reflected.
SOUTHCOM is a joint command comprised of more than 1,200 military and civilian personnel representing the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and several other federal agencies. Responsible for providing contingency planning, operations, and security cooperation, SOUTHCOM’s assigned Area of Responsibility includes Central America, South America and the Caribbean (excluding U.S. commonwealths, territories and possessions.)
