Students in Doral Plant Trees for Arbor Day

Doral, FL – January 15, 2016 was proclaimed Arbor Day in the City of Doral as Mayor Luigi Boria visited eight Doral elementary schools presenting Proclamations and donating a tree for each school to plant and care for throughout the year. Doral’s Arbor Day activities helped earn the “Tree City USA” title from the National Arbor Day Foundation for the eighth consecutive year.

This year Tabebuias Yellow Trumpets, also known as Araguaneys, were provided to students in support of the environment and in acknowledgment of the endless benefits of trees. “The goal is to continue to spread the word about the importance of Arbor Day and the benefit that trees provide to our City, the World, and to our future generations,” said Dulce Pantaleon of Doral’s Public Works Department.

The participating schools this year were: Shelton Academy; Eugenia B. Thomas K-8 Center, Dr. Rolando Espinosa K-8 Center, John I. Smith Elementary School, Divine Savior Elementary School, Doral Academy Charter Elementary, Downtown Doral Charter Elementary School, and Renaissance Elementary School.

The Doral Public Works Department works closely with the City’s Environmental Advisory Board to uphold the title of “Tree City USA” and improve the environmental awareness in the community.
