UPDATE : Miami-Dade County Hurricane Debris Management

The Department of Solid Waste Management’s trash crews and its contractors continue to remove hurricane debris piles at the curbsides of its 330,000 unincorporated and municipal service area customers and on the County-maintained public rights-of-way.  Our preliminary estimates indicate that there is at least 400,000 tons of hurricane debris needing collection.  Based on our experience after Hurricane Wilma in 2005, we anticipate that it will take at least 60 days for debris removal.  It’s an enormous task and it will take time. But we are committed to the debris collection effort which will continue until all debris is collected throughout our 330-square-mile service area.  We are encouraging residents to be patient during this recovery effort.

Additionally, we have produced the attached debris management publication that will be mailed to every service area customer during the week of September 25th.  The mailer should begin to arrive in homes by Wednesday, September 27th.
